Few afternoons come more pleasurable than a day spent enjoying the pleasant countryside scenery at Foxton Locks. Take a walk through the fresh fields and woodland, before stopping to view one of the most significant locks in the country.
Foxton Locks is the largest ‘flight of staircase’ locks in the UK, and actually features two staircases, of five locks per staircase.
The locks also have an accompanying museum, where enthusiasts can find out more about how the locks were constructed, and view some of the local canal paraphernalia on display.
If you get hungry, there are plenty of excellent pubs along the way, not to mention a delightful tearoom, serving drinks and light snacks.
